IT TAKES 4-6 WEEKS TO ORDER NEW, ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATES. THAT MEANS IF THEY DO NOT HAVE THEM NOW, THEY ARE PUSHING THE TIME LIMIT BELOW.
Open enrollment this year starts on Monday, April 16 through Tuesday, May 22. Because of some recent changes in tax laws, there are some important changes in our annual dependent verification process this year.
All employees with dependent children on their plan must now provide an original birth certificate, a birth certificate with a State seal, or a court order to complete the dependent verification audit. This is because tax laws now have a different definition of “dependent” than that used for our health plan (including adults who meet certain criteria). If you don’t have an original birth certificate, it will take several weeks to receive one from your child’s county of birth. Please plan accordingly so that you don’t get caught in a situation where you are unable to verify your dependent by May 22, as this will result in the loss of their benefits until the next open enrollment window.
